1. Keep It Dry

The fastest way to tarnish your jewelry is by contact with moisture and liquids. This includes putting on lotions, washing your hands, spraying perfume, and sweating. The oils on your skin can wear down plating and metals over time and this will again vary from person to person. If your jewelry gets wet by accident wipe them dry right away! We also suggesting wiping down jewelry after every use.

  1. Properly Store Your Jewelry

Exposure to the simplest things like the moisture in the air can wear down your jewelry. All jewelry you receive from us come with a velvet bag so use this to keep your jewelry protected from the sun and free from scratches and chips.

Take it up a level by storing your jewels in a Ziploc bag - but you'll want to make sure you get rid of as much air as possible before sealing it. With the air removed, the metal won't be able to oxidize from the air.

Super keen on keeping your favorite pieces in tip top shape? Get some anti-tarnish strips. These super absorbent pieces of paper will basically suck all the culprits in the air that will cause your jewelry to tarnish over time. Stick these in your jewelry drawer, jewelry box or storage pouch.

  1. No Direct Sunlight Or Heat

Direct heat and sunlight can spell disaster for your jewelry pieces as they may cause them to fade prematurely. Gemstones in particular will become dull after extended periods of exposure. Keep your jewelry far away from sunshine through a window or heat from a radiator.

  1. Use Clear Nail Varnish on Plated Rings

Some rings can turn your finger green with repeated use. This is due to a chemical reaction between the sweat under the band, chemicals on the skin and the metal in the ring. Copper is the main culprit, even when used as an alloy. Sterling silver may also cause this reaction. A clever way to prevent this common problem is to coat the inside of your ring band with a thin layer of clear nail varnish. You won’t be able to see or feel it, but it will act as a protective barrier, saving your finger from an embarrassing green stain, and your ring from tarnishing.

  1. Jewelry Protectant Spray

Giving your jewelry a protective shield to fight the elements contributing to tarnishing can protect your favorite pieces longer.  Some sprays can also protect you from allergies like irritation, rashes and hives, that our extra sensitive girls get to costume jewelry! Do not use on strings or beaded jewelry.
